Faculty Staff Bowling League

By Mike Cosgrove – Every Monday evening, from mid-January through early April, a diverse group of faculty, staff and administrators gather at the Union Sports Annex for a fun-filled evening of bowling.  Twelve, three-person teams represent a wide swath of campus, from the Bursar’s office to the Registrar to Army ROTC.

Team names are creative- This is How We Roll, Split Decisions, the Pin Snipers and Gutter Humiliation are just a few.

A handicapping system ensures that all skill levels can compete for the season ending trophy.  Various awards are handed out at a banquet at the end of the year – not just first place.

Everybody gets along well – there is a little good-natured ribbing, and a lot of positive reinforcement on good rolls.  You have to arrive pretty early to control the juke box, if you don’t, expect to hear a healthy dose of 70’s disco.

This recreational bowling league is an enjoyable way to interact with colleagues and get active at the same time.  If this sounds like something that you may be interested in, watch for News Briefs next fall, or contact John Kratzer (john.kratzer@marquette.edu).
