Get your bicycle out for these events…

By Jill Weisensel – This time of the year I’m always anxious to get outside and enjoy the increasingly nice weather.  Luckily, one of my job perks is that on really nice days, we (DPS) have the option to go out on “bike patrol” if we have been trained.  Our bike patrol unit goes through extensive training, and many of our bike officers also participate in charity bike rides over the course of the summer.  I was just told by a fellow officer that we have a team of officers participating in these upcoming charity rides.  Perhaps you would also be interested in putting together a team of MU employees.

You may also be interested in commuting to work on your bike in an effort to save some gas while getting fit.  Marquette has joined the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin’s Bike to Work Challenge.  Learn more about the bike challenge and bike to work week.  Make sure you are familiar with these bike safety tips before setting out.

Need another reason to get outside?  Join Father Pilarz for a walk celebrating National Employee Health and Fitness Day.  In recognition of National Employee Health and Fitness Day, all Marquette faculty and staff are invited to join in a “Poker Walk” around the Marquette Mile, led by President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.  The walk will be held Wednesday, May 16, at noon, beginning and ending at the Helfaer Recreation Center. Each participant will be given a poker card at registration and will collect cards along the route. The top poker hands at the end of the walk will win prizes. The Department of Recreational Sports will also offer free admission to the Rec Center and Rec Plex May 16-18.
