There’s only one direction you can coast

By Jill Weisensel – While reading an article by one of my favorite self-improvement bloggers, I came across the “20-10 Test,” an exercise he took from the book ‘Good to Great’ by Jim Collin.

The “20-10 Test” challenges us to look at our life and our current level of happiness and ask ourselves these questions:

  • If you inherited $20 million dollars, no strings attached, would you spend your days the way you spend then now?
  • If you knew you had at most 10 years to live would you stick with your current job?

Since I’m always looking for a good dose of perspective, I took some time to think about these questions, and I was pretty satisfied with my answers.  As you relect on these questions, you may find it helpful to write down your thoughts.  You might be surprised with what you come up with.

These quotes help put this self-reflection test into perspective:

“There’s only one direction you can coast.”  Brian Tracy, Author

“Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them.”  W. Clement Stone, Author and Businessman

“Life is like riding a bike. It is impossible to maintain your balance while standing still.”  Linda Brakeall

“No one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourself.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson, Poet

What inspires you?  Do you have a quote or method of putting things into perspective that you find helpful?

I find endless inspiration in music. There’s a song for everything.
